Introducing Pitch Initiative: A New Nonprofit Changing Lives Through the Power of Sports, Housing, and Community Service
Phoenix, AZ (July 2023) – MAVRX Sports Housing is proud to announce the formation of Pitch Initiative, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization launched in July 2023 with a mission to empower communities through service, advocacy, and access. As the philanthropic extension of MAVRX, Pitch Initiative was born from the company’s foundational commitment to service and its desire to give back in impactful, hands-on ways.
About MAVRX Sports Housing
MAVRX Sports Housing specializes in short-term, fully furnished housing solutions for professional athletes nationwide. The company was founded by Nicolette Hawthorne, a former collegiate athlete, military family member, and spouse of retired NFL and AFL defensive lineman Anttaj “Taj” Hawthorne. Nicolette’s personal journey and strong values laid the groundwork for the launch of Pitch Initiative, with service to others standing as a guiding principle in both the business and its nonprofit counterpart.
The Mission and Pillars of Pitch Initiative
Pitch Initiative focuses on four key pillars of impact. The organization champions youth sports accessibility by providing underserved children and communities with essential equipment, financial aid, and program sponsorships. Through athlete-led philanthropy, Pitch partners with professional players and sports organizations to amplify their charitable efforts and provide funding and resources that align with their values. The organization also addresses housing instability, particularly for veterans and vulnerable individuals, by offering critical aid and resources to help facilitate long-term stability. Additionally, Pitch promotes women’s empowerment by supporting financial autonomy, career advancement, and domestic abuse recovery through targeted initiatives and community partnerships.
Programs and Community Impact
In its inaugural year, Pitch Initiative made a tangible impact through several community-focused programs. Beat the Heat is an annual initiative that provides Phoenix’s unhoused population with essential summertime supplies such as bottled water, hygiene kits, and cooling gear during the city’s hottest months. The Back-to-School Program supported ten students from Canyon Elementary, a Title I school, with school supplies and $100 gift cards for each family to purchase clothing, groceries, and other necessities. To mark MAVRX’s 10-year anniversary, Pitch hosted the 10 for 10 Event in collaboration with MANA House, a peer-support organization for homeless and formerly homeless veterans. The event featured a pro-athlete meet-and-greet, games and activities, a catered dinner, custom toiletry kits, and a visit from the Luke Air Force Base fire truck. Pitch closed out the celebration with a $10,000 donation to MANA House in support of their ongoing mission.
